SnowSkool Promo Video 2011

Earlier in the year The 633 were approached by SnowSkool to provide a track for their 2011 Promotional Video. We had just finished recording our debut EP at Long Track Studios and sent across a few of the tracks for the SnowSkool team to review.

Shortly after, they contacted us to ask permission to use 'Looking Up & Under' for the video. They liked the prominent riff, its fast pace and the driving beat behind the song.

SnowSkool provide Ski, Snowboard and Instructor courses across the Globe, in locations such as Canada, the USA, New Zealand and France. Check their website out here: http://www.snowskool.co.uk/

Debut at the Judge and Jury for Colchester 101 presents...

Colchester 101 - the town's must read monthly on all things music have continued their stalwart support of the incredible local music scene by launching 'Colchester101 presents' at brand spanking and shiney new music venue; the Judge and Jury in the heart of the cultural quarter.

However... The 633 drummer extraordinaire Mr Paul Ambrose, had a pre-arranged event earning brownie-points with his rather lovely wife, The 633 recruited Bryn Morgan to deputise. Bryn was the obvious choice, formally of Vellocetta an incredible band and raging bull favourite and now on guitar/vox duty in the eagerly anticipated Beard du Jour. Although Bryn hadn't been behind a kit for a while, he agreed to step in. First rehearsal at Pioneer, was going well. Bryn was rapidly becoming accustomed to the anarchic and surreal banter, and gave the drums a chuffing good whack; until he smashed his hand across the rim of the snare, repeatedly. Blood everywhere.  His hands also blistered from not having played drums since Vellocetta called it a day.

We all knew it was curtains for Bryn playing on the Saturday, however, he said it was a common injury, and that he would be ok for the weekend... Just give him a few days... Facebook updates later that week from fellow Beard du Jour band mate, Aaron (comedy genius) indicated that one rehearsal with the 633 had completely broke Bryn.... Ooooops, sorry Bryn. So it would be the four of us, or so we thought...

4pm Saturday (the day of the gig) Inika, Mike's better half, rings... 'Mike has had emergency root canal. He can't speak, let alone sing'... Ok. Mike, thankfully, is on the road to recovery, after a short spell in hospital. After a few rounds of tense phone calls, Dan steps up to do a set of his solo (Slowlife) material, and Mark fills lead vocal duties. Some random beer was purchased from the Aldi opposite Dan's house and the remaining few of the 633 got down to reworking the songs and the set 2 and 1/2 hours before we are expected at a brand new venue, where we'd never played for a sound check, when we have no clue what it should sound like!!! Fair to say it was a bit stressful. We agreed, early doors, that this was too good an opportunity not too play, and that as Colchester101, had not only supported the band, but also our night The Raging Bull that we weren't going to back out now. So there it was...

With trepidation, we walked from Dan's flat with the gear, to the newly refurbished Judge and Jury (formally Molly Malones) which new owner Jimmy proudly tells is a venue designed with fellow musicians in mind and modelled on the legendary LA venue, The Viper Room. Gilly cranked out the tunes, including one of my favourites of all time, The Sonics - Have love, will travel. Well the upshot of all this, nervously we gave a good account of ourselves to a warm music loving crowd and Colchester 101 firmly installs itself in to the already bulging calendar of must-see music events in the town. Then Surfquake take to the stage and smash it up in their own inimitable style, and involuntary hip-shaking and pulp fiction jiving begins. The 633 will return to the stage at the J&J, with a full compliment of players and please let's get the lasers on for that set. Get well soon Mike, without you, me and Mark have to talk to the general public and we are not good at this. Let's play to each others strengths, the good people of Colchester (or any other place for that matter) are not ready for mine and the boy wonder's 'unique' brand of psychedelic humour.

We're back!!!

We haven't made a blog post for a few weeks now, so we thought we'd just update you on what is happening in the world of The 633.

As you may know, we played Mersea Island Scooter Rally at the start of the month. We had a great weekend of camping and played a storming set. It was also great to watch the other bands on the line up, Marner Brown, Ady Johnson, Animal Noise and Jukebox Fury.

There has been some delay in the design process of the EP, hence the delay in release. We are happy to say that the design has now been completed and production of the EP is about to commence shortly. Further details of the EP launch will be release over the coming weeks, keep your eyes peeled.

Finally we'd like to invite you to 2 upcoming gigs we have. On Saturday 17th September we will be playing the launch night of Colchester 101 Magazine's Club Night at the Judge & Jury in Colchester, also playing is Buddy Lee Dickens, Surfquake and local legend DJ Gilly, not to be missed. Then on Tuesday 20th September we will be playing at Missoula in Chelmsford for a Shakster Records Night, if you're in the area why not pop in.

Who Are The 633???

You can ponder the meaning of life, deliberate what the best cheese is but the question you all want to know is WHO ARE THE 633?

Well why not pop down to Colchester Free Festival and find out for yourself, don't listen to hearsay (that terrible pop idol band), don't take anyone's word for it, experience it for yourself, DON'T BE DENIED!

We will also be putting questions to our Facebook fans over the next few weeks, so we can find out who you are and in return you can ask anything you want about us. Want to know where the band name comes, want to know how the band came together, now is your chance to ask.

See you pretty people at the front tomorrow, we expect dancing, chanting fans and nothing less, whatever the weather and you'll get just the same back (minus the dancing).

Peace, love and a very odd shaped banana,

First Review of 'If You Could Only See' EP

So this is where it all starts, the first EP review and we couldn't ask for a better start.

Music Blogger Lucinda Parker kindly reviewed the 6-track EP and as you will see she was pleasantly surprised. To read the full review click here: Lucinda Parker Music Blog

Here is the review song by song, don't forget that you can download 'Live Your Life' for FREE by clicking on the Free Track tab and entering your email address.

Track 1 – Seems So Simple
What a simple but edgy first song to an overall fantastic EP. At first, you think its going to be a mellow song with stunning opening lyrics from Deans, his voice reminds me of an indie version of Chris Rea or Rod Stewart from his Small Faces days. It soon kicks in with the rest of the band performing unique sounds that hit the right spot and fit perfectly with the lyrics.  It all works pleasantly well for this opening tune, after listening to the song for the third time I’ve already got to know the lyrics, which for me is always a sign of a fine tune.
Track 2 – My Little War
With a rocky longer introduction to My Little War which reminds me of a Beady Eye tune mixed with a bit of The Jam and The Who as my mate so kindly quoted, this song creates a definite head rocking notion and a bit of leg tapping to keep you going, the opening of the song builds up and steadily flows throughout.  Nice.
Track 3 – My Brother’s Keeper
This song reminds me of a mix of Stone Roses, The Verve and Kasabian, its got the classic style lyrics but with a modern-day twist of an indie/rock theme.  I like it…a lot. Really like the chorus and I quickly got to know the words yet again. Superb catchy tune. Really good in fact.
Track 4 - A Hundred Days
Instantly kicks off with husky lyrics from lead singer Deans who captures your mind straight away with strong lyrics.  With this song you hear a soft side to Deans voice, the song draws you in a romantic melody that all can relate to in some way or another. Whether this song is about love or not, it’s a beautiful composed song. The guitar at the end really tops it off as a class tune. Boom.
Track 5 - Looking Up & Under
Great intro to this song, so if you like We Are Scientists ‘Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt’ then your going to love this song! Really funky beat to it with an up-beat tempo. Love the composition of the drums in this melody.
Track 6 – Live Your Live (As You Live It In Your Dreams)
Save the best till last?? Yes, I think so. Straight into the lyrics, this song is first-class and the song title for this track says it all about this EP overall and the message it is portraying. A really polite ending to a fantastic debut from The 633. Can definitely see a bit of old skool Oasis in this tune. Has an awesome guitar piece nearer the end of the melody which finalizes it as a master-piece tune.
Nice work boys. Well done for your debut EP.
