The 633 recommends...

And so it arrives, May's installment of 'The 633 recommends...' and this month we have chosen an absolute classic.

The Who - Who’s Next

Try it. Just try not to air drum to this landmark drum filled guitar killing tune monster, that captures the Who at their most fierce and vital peak.

The singles that were released set the blueprint for The Who’s LP, which was their next release after the legendary Live at Leeds album.

Stand out tracks are Won’t Get Fooled Again, a guitar smashing tune with Townsend leaps and exploding drums. Behind Blue Eyes is Pure Magic, There has never been a cover version that highlighted how great the original is… until Limp Bizkit's cover was released. Baba O'Riley is one of those tracks you're not so sure who the track is by at first, until the drums kick in and the chords get a spanking.

The album started life as Townsends rock opera project Life house, the projects failure led him to the point of a suicidal nervous breakdown.

Who’s next was then recorded with a hand full of the abandoned project songs featuring on the album. Townsends has described the track Pure and Easy, which was featured on the 15 track 1995 reissued album, as “the central pivot of Life house”.

Produced by Glyn Johns and the band themselves, Who’s Next charts the bands completion of a journey from a young pop group into rock legends.

If you not tapping your foot, banging on the table or annoying someone in your general vicinity with your outrageous air drum fills by the end of track two Bargain, then make sure your listening to the right album.
