The 633 Spotify Playlist

As well as 'The 633 recommends...' we will also be featuring a 3-part Spotify playlist on our blog.

As a band we could easily fill 50 playlists full of The Beatles, Oasis, Led Zep and other well known and classic bands. If you want to listen to that i'm sure you'd rather fetch it out of the CD rack or whack the iPod on. We hope our playlist will give you that feeling you get when you hear a great song for the first time or maybe just one you haven't heard for a while.

Please click here for Part 1: The 633 Part 1

We enjoy people talking about music so why not let us know what you think. Tell us if you think it's absolute tripe but also tell us if it has opened your eyes to some new music. Maybe do a track by track critique or even just listen away as you have a BBQ with mates. Whatever you do, we hope you enjoy it!!!

Recording @ Long Track Studios

On Thursday 14th April The 633 entered Long Track Studios to start work on their first official release with Producer Nathan Wacey. The plan was to go into the studio and record 4 of what we think are our best tracks but they were going down so well that we quickly realised we'd be able to sneak another 2 in. So by the end of Day 1 we had 6 live takes of all the main instruments.
Day 2 was spent laying down Lead and Backing Vocals, as well as all the Guitar overdubs and Day 3 consisted of finishing the Vocals and laying down additional instrumentation (Piano, Organ..) and percussion.

Day 4 was a monster session as we tried to break the back of the mixing. Nathan worked incredibly hard that day while the rest of us lazy so and so's fell asleep on the sofa. We'd like to give a massive thanks to Nathan for putting us at such ease in the Studio, he really got the best out of us and also to his lovely wife Sarah who made sure we were comfortable and had enough beer and ice-cream.

If anyone is looking for somewhere to record Long Track is the place. They have mountains of vintage equipment, guitars and fx pedals and Nathan is an absolute pleasure to work with and a credit to his profession. The studio is surrounded by peaceful countryside and is frequented by 2 characters, Monkey & Ziggy the studio cats. Please check it out!

So what now? Well, because we now have 6 tracks instead of 4 this opens up a few more opportunities when releasing the EP. Please bear with us while we work out our plans, as soon as we know release dates, artwork details, launch party info then we will be sure to let you know first. In the meantime please enjoy the pics we took while recording the live takes.

Busy, busy, busy!!!

Last week was a complete blur with 3 gigs in 3 days and there seems to be no chance of any letting up this week either. We have a few days rest after the onslaught of the weekend and then we enter the studio to start work on our first EP.

After playing at The 100 Club (London) on Wednesday, Barhouse (Chelmsford) on Thursday and none other than The Raging Bull (Colchester) on Friday and with a couple of sore throats and a band member suffering from a nervous breakdown due to London traffic, we finally surfaced out the other end. We hope you like the hazy but 'arty' shots from The 100 Club and a massive thanks to everyone that came along to support us at all the gigs.

Thursday will see us enter Long Track Studios for 4 days of recording, we hope to get 4 tracks laid down in this time and to make a start on the mixing. The release date for the new EP is expected to be around June time, although there may be a few teasers leading up to that. Also to coincide with the release will be some newly designed merchandise, T-shirts, badges and more...

Will be posting some pictures and videos of us in the studio next week so keep those eyes peeled.

The 633 recommends...

We thought we'd put forward a recommendation each month, just to give everyone an insight into what music influences us and also to turn people onto great music. This could be a record that was released last week or even 1967, whatever year it's from we can assure you it is definitely worth a peek.

First up we have The Coral - Butterfly House.

If you had your head up your arse last year and managed to miss this record then don't waste any more time, down your tools and GET IT NOW!!!

All great albums are those that you can listen to from start to finish without skipping a track and
this is certainly in that category. Produced by John Leckie (Stone Roses, Radiohead, Verve), the album mixes tasteful psychedelia with folk and even striking riffs.

The songs are a layer of exquisite harmonies, acoustic guitars and endless hooks. Highlights of the album are Roving Jewel which is absolutely drenched with melody, 1000 Years which evokes images of the 60's San Francisco Summer and Coney Island which brings to mind a haunting trip to the carnival.

If you need more convincing the go to The Coral's website and you can download the title track The Butterfly House for free. Click here: http://zaphod.uk.vvhp.net/reg/reg.pl?id=5048-130429

April's Raging Bull Event

We have got a busy week ahead with our headline gig @ The 100 Club on Wednesday, Barhouse in Chelmsford on Thursday and our 2011 return to Colchester.

After taking a conscious decision to not play
Colchester for a few months, we will be returning to play our renowned club night 'The 633 presents The Raging Bull'. This decision was to give the people of Colchester a rest from our constant musical bombardment but also to work on new songs and what we believe is a different sound.

We will play The Raging Bull on Friday alongside some of Colchester's freshest and most promising acts. The line up includes acoustic acts Dan Bowen (The 633's Lead Guitarist) who will be showcasing some of his solo material under the name Slow Life and Francesca Jones who we met and were blown away by her voice. The bands playing are Gull's who are a new band to the scene but already creating ripples in the pond, Slopes who are sure to make an impression and obviously ourselves.
